Hi Jonathan With regards to the symptoms your car exhibits: while a bad axle bearing might cause a humming sound ( usually made worse when turning or putting weight on that specific wheel by rocking steering wheel side to side while driving ) , it just appears to me that the vibration is caused by something else, probably a bad universal joint. Should you elect to replace the axle, please keep in mind that the length is different from Sure-Grip rears to non Sure-Grips. You asked members of the list for a good replacement axle but did not specify whether the car has Sure-Grip or not.
