I am planning on replating my front and rear bumper on my '63 300 Conv this 
Winter in Chicago.  The '63 and '64 use the same back bumper.  I was quoted 
around $360 to replate and straighten the old bumper (small dimple dents). 
You can ship it via Greyhound bus for under $100 and probably a used core 
would be $100 or less.  So, if you could get $550 from the guy, you probably 
would not have to take money out of your pocket.

A few months ago I was tapped from behind and the rear bumper on my '64 300 
was bent in a moderate amount. The other driver was ticketed, etc but as is 
so often the case, his insurance was invalid. I couldn't get a good address 
or phone number for him and was unable to contact him. I didn't want to file 
a claim against my insurance so I just figured I'd just eat it and chalk it 
up to life.

I got a pleasant surprise yesterday when the fellow called me out of the 
blue and said he wanted to pay for the damages and make it right. I'm not 
sure of his motivation, I think the state might be making him do this before 
they'll re-issue him a drivers license. Or maybe guilt just got the best of 
him, who knows.

I want to tell him a fair dollar amount for the damages, but don't have a 
clue. What would be a ballpark figure to straighten out and rechrome a rear 
bumper for my '64? I don't need a super-duper quality show quality, but I do 
want it to look nice. If there is not a local shop to deal with, what would 
shipping run on a bumper?
