[Chrysler300] Wiring gremlins- reminder of a past problem

Greetings group-
This discussion reminded me of a problem I had to find and fix on a 73 Newport Custom that my Dad owned a number of years ago. Occasionally the car refused to start, or for that matter do anything, no lights, etc. Then for no apparent reason it would start and run when tried without any problem. Long story short here was (this would apply to 70-up Chrysler products with the ignition switch up in the column at the key) the wiring connector at the bottom of the dash where the ignition switch plugged into the main harness was melted in the center where the main hot lead ran thru the connector. As it was a daily driver for my dad the fix was to cut the lead at both sides of the connector and solder a new section of wire in to by-pass the connector. I have since seen a few of the 70-73 cars with the same problem, a few to the point of a small wiring fire, one burnt the car completely. That one the owner( a acquaintance of mine) had cut the wire and just used wire nuts to attach the by-pass wire! He was driving it when smoke started pouring out of the area where his "repair" was located.....
Not exactly 300 item, but for those of us who have some of the early 70's Chryslers for drivers, tow vehicles etc. I thought I would pass along a word to the wise- Check this spot to see if it has melted at all.

PS- That 73 Newport Custom wound up in our yard over 10 years after dad sold it and the repair is still there and apparently never gave any other owner after my dad any problems.
