Hi John, There is a reason that these are one-way screws... removing the license plate light assembly gives access to the trunk lock cylinder and mechanism. This was a very early attempt at theft prevention of your spare tire and whatever else might be in the trunk ! ... I have had some success with long-nose vise-grip pliers, inserted thru the trunk over the threaded end of the screws, enough to loosen them... if not, you'll have to cut a slot in the head of the screw so as to be able to use a flat-blade screwdriver on them... suggest spraying PB Blaster on the threads of the screws, from inside the trunk, first... 300'ly John Hertog Sag Harbor NY ----- Original Message ----- From: <john_nowosacki@xxxxxxxxxxx> To: <Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, August 07, 2004 10:06 PM Subject: [Chrysler300] 61 Chrysler question Hello group, I'm trying to help some new friends with a restoration of a 61 Chrysler (non-300). I never knew or noticed before, but the license plate lamp lense on the rear of 61 Chryslers (all?) appears to be fastened with "one-way" flathead screws which can be tightened, but the heads are formed in such a way as to prevent loosening of them with a flat blade screwdriver. Seems odd that Chrysler would pick just this one piece to fasten to the car this way. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to remove them? I checked my 57,000 original mile G, and sure enough, the same kinds of screws are on my car as well. I suggested a pair of needle nose vice-grips to the folks trying to restore their Chrysler, but they did not have any success with that approach. Any comments or suggestions appreciated. I learn more about these cars every day.
