I had a similar problem on a '55 Dodge with a Powerflite. After may frustrating hours of looking I finally found that the rubber mount holding up the tail of the transmission was broken and when the engine applied a twisting torque to the drive train, the transmission would raise up and cause the drive shaft to hit the floor of the car and put things in a bind. Just to look at it on the lift, though, everything looked okay. You will need to get under the car and push up on the tail of the transmission to check it. It was worse in reverse and you could only back up the car very slowly at minimum engine RPM. You might also just have a bolt out of it but I'd recommend starting there.
