For some reason, my K coupe has always run hot at the slightest cause. Hot weather, slow traffic - whatever - sometimes it runs hot at full speed on a hot day. Other times, it runs at a midrange temperature as long as the weather is cool to normal, but it will heat up whenever the outside temperature gets really high. On the other hand, my G always runs in the lower half of the "normal" range, virtually no matter what. At the Plymouth, MI meet, we got stuck in a traffic jam for maybe 20 minutes and the gauge hit the max, but the radiator didn't boil over. As soon as we started moving (and I mean within 100 yards) the gauge was back in the normal range. I haven't tried it yet, but I understand that NAPA has a product that will drop your operating temperature at least 30 degrees, and that should be enough for any engine under most operating conditions.
