Well after spending one month just trying to get the right freeze plugs for my heads. I thought I might as well get started on the block. I opened the package marked for all 413's from 1959 to 1965. Now thinking my 1960 fits right in there I poored them out on the bench and took inventory. Looks good except they are cup type. My block uses disc type. So back to the auto parts store to order 6 new disc type 1 5/8" dia.. I had to wait two more days for them to come in. Now its Friday morning , 88 degrees just the perfect enviroment to install freeze plugs. Rolled the block over on the engine stand so thedrivers side was up. Got my tube of Permatex # 1 put in all three plugs on the drivers side, gave them a good whack with my brass and ball peen hammer All went well. Now the trouble starts. I rolled the block to where the passenger side was up. Installed the first two plugs starting from the front and working back. That went well. Then I picked up the last plug and went to set it in the last hole and the plug just dropped in. Now thinking I must have picked up the wrong plug. No the last one is 1 3/4 " not 1 5/8 like the other five. Now Hell "Who would ever design fiveplugs of one size and one much larger all by its little self." Now after a few swear words before and after "I don't believe it."..... I called the parts house again trying to get somebody to feel bad for me. All I got is we would need to special order one 1 3/4" but we can't just order one, I would have to order a hole box. I really don't need a whole box. I then checked the calander to see if it was the 13th. I was ok there. So here I go again. No parts stores or engine rebuilders in town have one. Most said if I had a F--d or C---y would be no problem. Now thats just what I wanted to hear. I love a challenge. Please stand by for chapter 13 when I find one more plug.- Gary Barker . ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Yahoo! Autos.
