Seeing that you are already there, what is the battery polarity for a '56? I would imagine it is negative earth like other 12v '56 cars. For '60 and '61, would appear, oil pressure gauge is analog gauges voltage source(would be verifiable with analog votmeter and pulsating voltage at oil pressure 'D' terminal). I would have said that fuel gauge has regulator in it but oil gauge in our diagrams shows 'I" wire only (feed from fuse block) to oil gauge and then jumpers to fuel and temp gauges from 'D' terminal on oil gauge. This is for '60 and '61. There was a system of gauges made by Auto Lite that apparently did use battery voltage without a constant voltage regulator. Is this the system in the '56 Chryslers with the advent of constant voltage gauges in 1957 and after? Makes you wonder if a Chrysler product was "Thee" car to own back then, and even now. I have been doing some work on my 64 300-K convert, trying to get it ready for another year of crusie nights and shows. Here is some parts info some may find useful. I just finished rebuilding my steering box and power steering pump. I got the rebuild kits at the local NAPA. The p/s pump seal kit # is 7-106. The p/s box kit is 1-117. The box kit is a major seal kit and will refit from 1961 to 1968 p/s steering boxes. Also, I tuned-up my 727B torqueflite. The NAPA # is 1-9715. This will get you cork gaskets (you get one for the 707 and 904), but most important, you get the filter with the two hole pick-up for the 1964 and below. Single hole pick-up filter should not be used. That's all for now, Paul (crash) 300-K convert [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Message: 6 Date: Fri, 14 Feb 2003 13:50:47 -0700 From: john_nowosacki@xxxxxxxxxxx Subject: RE: 300's in Films How about commercials? I'm probably going to have to have a cable made up since none exist in unobtainium land so does anyone know the exact length the cable should be? I think who ever did the rewire on my car did not have all the "friends in the business" that I have. My car does now have one of those after market harnesses, but all the wires are black, and the job was poorly done. The darn fuse box is mounted upside-down, making it even harder to locate stuff. And it looks like they did something weird to get 5 volts to the gauges, cuzz the map light that is somehow tied in is very dim. I will do more research on the Echlin part IR-2. Correctly mounting and installing the harness does not look that difficult. Being un-employed right now gives me lots of time. Thanks again.
