Subject: Turn signal flasher for '56
Hello Fellow Owners,
When I got my '56 a week ago, the turn signal showed a flickering (constant
almost) light both at the four corners as well as the inside indicators,
instead of a definite normal signal. I figured it needed a new flasher, so I
replaced the 550 flasher with same type. After inserting it, and still
looking at it under the dash, I turned the ignition on and got a spark!! I
went ahead and put the turn signal lever left and then right, and it worked
like it should, all day. Two days later (today), I drove the car, and lo
and behold, NO TURN SIGNAL OPERATION WHATSOEVER!! I am not a mechanic in
any sense of the word, so I'm asking what could have caused this, before
inserting another flasher, and possibly blowing more $$$$$. Is this Heavy
Duty Flasher #550 (3 prong), 12 Volt correct, in the first place??? This
flasher says to use a 14 amp fuse in input lead. I don't see a fuse in
line, at all. This model doesn't have a fuse box, so it must be somewhere
back there, right?

Subject: '60 radio delete plate
The '60 radio delete plate has the "Chrysler" script cast into it; it is not separate script. Have never seen a '61 or '62 delete plate so can't comment there. A picture of the radio delete on my 300F Special is on the club page: http://www.chrysler300club.com/stories/graefen/GT300F.html as the fifth picture down. Although it is black and white, I assure you the script is chrome with the rest of the plate.
Gold plating can be done on an otherwise chrome part by use of a mask. After the entire part is chromed, the mask is applied over all areas that are not to become gold and then dipped in the gold tank. This was done with the forwardlook emblems on the '57 DeSoto Adventurer for example.

Having now't better to do on a wet 'n windy winter's day, this 'puzzle' that has been bugging me came to the fore, and I just know that someone will have the answer......
I have a '60 Chrysler radio delete plate, # 2080008. My '60/''61 parts books both list this number. My '62 book says # 2162145.
My plate is all chrome,including the Chrysler script.
Another I have seen, described as for '60-'62 Chryslers had the Chrysler script in gold. It looked exactly similar, save the gold script.
Was this the '62 delete plate ? Did they all have the Chrysler script in gold, and mine has simply been 'polished off' ?
How was the script, which was obviously part of the casting, be gold, and the rest chromed?

Isn't there a process now where gold plating can literally be put on by
brush with and electrode setup. Doing this to the raised lettering would be
a snap. Saw a vendor at a show few years back who would do this to parts
you provided.

Subject: C300 mirrors and DeSoto pulleys
After much shenanigans, the engine and trans. have been rebuilt and
re-installed on the C300 clone. None of you would believe how worn the fuel
pump eccentric was when we tore the engine down ! There was about 40 % of
the metal that had simply worn away to the point where it's oblong shape had
vanished ! I had to argue with and convince the machinist that the
replacement I got was the same part (long ago) as the damaged one. I must
admit I'm a bit worried about how these engines lubricate this part...
Anyway, her first test drive proved to be very pleasant, and everything ran
and shifted like new. The only problem appears to be some wobbly pulleys on
the front of the engine. It is a 276 Hemi out of a 54 DeSoto. Any ideas
what the interchange across Mopar lines is on the crank, fan, and steering
pulleys ?!? I have neither the DeSoto nor the Chrysler master parts books
to tell exactly what I can get some used ones off of...
Second, having no door or fender mirrors really makes a difference for those
of us who are so used to having them. I know these were not original to
the car, but then again neither is a DeSoto engine ! I presume 300B (any 55
or 56 Chrysler, actually) took the same aftermarket mirrors - but anyone
know where I can get some new ones - or some very good used ones ??
This winter will see the teardown of the powertrain in the other car. The
"real" C300....

Attention all in the club...
Removing a vin plate in many states is a FELONY criminal offense, in
other a misdemeanor, in all it is Illegal. Keep that in mind while working
on your vehicle. Avoid at all cost removing or tampering w/ the vin plate.
In Montana if you remove a vin it is a misdemeanor and if your car has a
un-attached vin plate it will be confiscated and a assigned state supplied
vin # will be put on the title and stamped on the car. If the vehicle has to
be inspected by law enforcement for licensing reasons and a sharp officer
notices that the rivets are not original- well look out! You will have a lot
of explaining to do and documents to produce. Sometimes it is unavoidable
(such as replacing a dash pad in a E body) but if it is avoidable- don't
mess with it!
I am a law enforcement officer and have been for 21 years, and we are
getting more NCIC training all the time on ways to catch thieves altering ID
plates etc. as it is a multi-million $ "business" trafficking high dollar
collector cars. Just a few words to the wise..... Joe Pierce 300K x2 plus

Last year, I notified the Listserver about the Prestigious Franklin Mint Car
show 3 weeks prior to its date. Many expressed the wish that I had notified
them sooner. OK, that is what I am doing now.
This year's show is scheduled for Sunday, September 29, 2002. Participants
begin arriving at 8:00 AM and the show starts at 10:00 AM and closes at 4:00
PM. There is NO registration fee charged to Participants but you MUST
pre-register.
Last year, there were 37,000 people who attended the show and saw only 2
Letter cars, Tony Rinaldi's 300 F cvt and my 300 F coupe. Both drew large
crowds and many questions.

Hi Everyone:
Gloria Moon pointed out to me that I neglected to give the site location for
the Franklin Mint's car show. Sorry about that.
The show is held at the Mint itself. The Mint and Museum are located on US
Highway 1 about 12 miles West of the city of Philadelphia, PA. The Mint is
situated in a little town called "Franklin Center," can't imagine how they
came up with that.
If you have a Road Map of PA, look in the lower Southeast corner of the State
just above the Delaware State line and you should see a Major Highway
intersection between US Highway 1 and 202. Move your finger to the right of
that intersection and along US 1 and you will see the little town of
"Franklin Center" it is right next to a little town named "WaWa." Hey, I had
nothing to do with the naming of these towns so don't laugh at me. If you
think they are odd, take a look at the areas around Lancaster, PA.
If any of you wish more precise directions, please send me an e-mail and I
will try and help.
