Subject: Oin pan seals on 392
Thanks for all the help on the installation order of the by-pass and anti-drain back assemblies. I've got that in, now comes the next question.
The oil pan seals(one at each end of the oil pan), have a flat side and a V-notched side. Which side goes in the pan grove and which side seals? Also, the gaskets on each side of the oil pan, I assume you trim them to butt up to the oil seals at each end rather than have an over-lap of the gasket on top of the oil seal. Yes?
If we keep going like this, I might as well have someone do the whole thing and I'll just watch.
Thanks for all the help,
Zak

Hello.

The 300F and 300G standard camshafts have 268 degrees duration
(seat-to-seat, or so-called "advertised duration") on both intake and
exhaust. Duration at 0.050" lift is 208 degrees. Cam lobe center angle (LCA)
is 110 degrees, and cam should be installed 4 degrees RETARDED (somewhat
unusual) for an installed intake centerline of 114 degrees. Total valve lift
(theoretical) is 0.430", with stock 1.5 ratio rockers. Cam timing (installed
as above) will be 20/68/60/28. Overlap (though nobody uses this term anymore)
is 48 degrees.

According to Dave Emanuel's book, "Super Tuning and Modifying
Carter Carburetors", other Carter AFB's with identical primary and secondary
bores as the 2903S (1-7/16" & 1-11/16") and identical venturi diameters as
the 2903S (1-3/16" & 1-9/16") are rated by Carter as 625 CFM carbs. I'd
reckon the 2903 is also 625 CFM.

Subject: California Show Report
Father's Day (Sunday, June 16th) proved to be a good day for
Chrysler 300's at the Milestone Classic Car Society annual show in Thousand
Oaks, California. Three Chrysler 300's were present among the hundreds of
entries, and all three came home prize winners.Club member Dan Reitz brought
his beautiful and original Alaskan White 300F coupe, with its rare "888"
code charcoal grey interior. Though I'd heard of such things, I'd never
actually seen a "special order" interior before, and I was amazed to think
that once upon a time such special exceptions were possible, if you had the
money and knew the right people! Dan received a fine second place in a
hard-fought class.
Yours truly brought his Toreador Red (nee white) 300F convertible,
which took first place in its class, thus extending its undefeated record in
show competition. Also in the class was a highly unusual (well, I'd never
seen one before) stunning black 1960 Plymouth Fury convertible, with a 383
"Sonoramic Commando" option (what we 300 folks call a "crossram"). It took
second place in the convertible class.
I understand another car, a 1955 Chrysler 300, also placed in its
class in the show, but I apologize as I didn't get the owner's name. If the
owner is on this List, congratulations! Also present was Club member Ted
Larangeira (hope I got that last name right, Ted), who didn't bring his 300F
coupe, which was still recovering from its multiple cross-country adventures.
TV personality Jay Leno was also in attendance (he brought a Packard, I
think), and was seen paying close attention to a very nice 1969 Plymouth GTX
Hemi hardtop. All in all it was a lovely show, and a fine day for the
Beautiful Brutes!

Roger Karlson

Oops! I committed my own pet peeve here by not completely answering
the actual question asked! You have my previous response for data on 300F/G
cams. I'm not sure about 1961, but for 1960 the stock New Yorker and Imperial
413 cam had 252 degrees total duration (I & E), and 0.389" valve lift. E-mail
me privately if you want timing data for this cam.

Have just received delivery of 300L center running light lenses, they still

Jay Leno. That rings a bell when you say he was looking over a GTX. I was
at the Mopar Spring Fling at Woodly Park in So. cal a few years ago. My
brother entered his fresh ground up resto on a 65 Dodge black 2 dr. post.
Leno came up at a brisk walk and left just as quick with his brief case. I
jokingly said to my brother that it was probably full of cash? Maybe a
check book.
It was obvious that he was on a hunt for the best that interested him and
ready to pay. Isn't it ironic how most of us sweet, grunt, strain, maybe a
little swearing to get our cars looking nice. To get a concourse car for
Leno the only sweet he sees is when he flips the latches on his brief
case. Oh well, I would not have it any other way.
Oh! To keep this within the list serve rules, my C sure is moving along
slowly. If I only had Leno's brief case.

Jay Leno...nice, nice man. I was at a show and standing near a "G" that
he was admiring. Some busybody wanted to impress him and started
telling him that it was an original 440 motor. I interrupted and said
that it was a 413, if original. When the guy started to argue, Jay said
"I believe the Lil' Lady is correct" in the politest voice while
pointing to the sign in front of the car showing the engine specs. I
was under the distinct impression he knew the motor size as well as I
did, but too polite to refute the guy, but liked that I did. He said
really loves the letter cars.
