I agree with the others -- I already have a 300C, so I won't buy a 57 New
Yorker. But I would buy a 300F -- very quickly!! Jim

Dave Brinkerhoff of the Danbury Mint wants to find a '57 Chrysler New
Yorker convert to make a die cast model.
Do any of our listserver 300 folks own one, know of one? Drop me a line
and
let me know.

Since Chrysler Corporation never did, maybe Danbury should make C300 and
300B converts. :o)

Hi Gang!

It almost looks like spring here in eastern IA. Maybe I should fire up th
F and cruise on over to Dyersville and park it in front of the Ertle Co
offices and maybe they will take the hint!!

Meanwhile, lets all get those cards and letters pouring in to Eleanor!!

UNCLE!! I give up!!
Agreed, the Danbury Mint should be doing a 300F as most of you have
written.
Being a co-owner of an F since 1970, I think you all have great good
taste.
But, since I'm not the owner of the Danbury Mint, I'm stuck asking about
the
'57. I know the '58 NYer CV is rarer than the 300D CV. What about the
'57?

All kidding aside, Danbury is interested in the '57 NY because they can
convert the existing 300C dies (which cost upwards of $100,000, by the
way)
to that model with a minimum of changes. Also, they get the ability to do
a
nifty '50's two-tone, which helps sell the model to people who aren't
particular fans of the car being modeled. If they did an F, and I wish
they
would, they would be able to recycle the windshield glass, maybe, but
that's
about it.

By way of example, Danbury recently issued a '57 Turnpike Cruiser in blood
red / white. I am not a FoMoCo fan particularly, but I bought one of
these
miniature 'Gorpmobiles' and I love it to pieces. That's what DM is
looking
for. Of course, I am hoping they convert both this and the '56 Adventurer
(also recently released) into Pace Car replicas at some point.

As far as finding a real '57 NY Cv, man that is a tall order! I believe
COLLECTIBLE AUTOMOBILE did a feature on '57 - '59 Chrysler that featured a
really nice '58 NY Cv., but I don't recall that even they were able to
photograph a restored '57.

G'luck, Gloria!

There is an excellent article on John's G in the April 2002 "Mopar
Action".
The pictures are great too.

Also check out the 426 Hemi powered PT Cruiser on page 26.

Subject: strange problem on a '57 Torqueflite

Hi all,
I've a strange problem on the 300 C of my friend. Since some
weeks the car won't go in reverse but goes forward even in N !!
First you must know that:
- the trans. was completly and carefully rebuilt 6 years ago.
Itsn't a tranny shop who did that, it was me with a friend ..
- the trans. worked very well up to 1999. At this date there was
a lot of brake problem on the car so the car wasn't droven
between 1999 and 2001. The owner had a lot of works and not
enough time to rebuild the brakes. Since 6 months the brakes were
overhauled and the car was driven few miles.

But when he drove the car some weeks ago to a body shop (for
paint work) he found a problem: there was some difficulties to go
in reverse: he had to run the engine at high rpm to engage the
"R". After some other tries, the car stopped to engage the "R"
and at this time it began to run forward in N !!

This week he told me to check the car trans. , and i thought it
was a bad cable adjustement, a 10 mn work ... We try several
adjustement and the car doesn't go in R and continues to go
forward in N. But a problem occurs when we check the oil level:
the color of oil was not the usual color: it was a "rusty" color
and it seems that there was water in the oil. First we think at a
leakage in the radiator but the radiator coolant is perfect with
no oil. The "taste" of the coolant is a sweet taste (permanent
glycol antifreeze) but the trans. oil has not this sweet taste.
But from where comes this water ? Condensation ? Long time of
inactivity ?

We remove the old "oil" from trans and converter and put fresh
new oil . The car goes always forward in N and doesn't move in R.
The cable is perfectly adjusted (easy to check when you remove
oil pan !)
Then we remove the oil screen and find some small debris on it
... Ther's also a burnt smell on it ...I'll try to overhaul the
valve body but i think that the clutches are out !!

Does someone has some idea about this "water" in trans, assuming
that itsn't a leak from radiator ? And why the car drives in N
with a correct cable adjustement ?
