For those fortunate enough to have never seen one of these, attached is a picture of the HVAC switch with broken nipples. One of the nipples is for the source vacuum from the fitting on the intake manifold. Similar switches are used for A/C and non A/C cars. The pushbuttons slide thin cams to guide vacuum to the actuator cans that open or close one or more of the four HVAC “doors” that route hot, cold fresh or recycled air. I sent mine off to JCAuto for repair of broken nipples and replacement of the sliding cams with modern plastic and lube. The old cams swell up and the original lube has turned to glue. This switch and system have been used in MoPars for many years and new ones may be available. The actuator cans have vacuum connections on each side of a diaphragm. The actuator rod is fastened to the diaphragm internally. Diaphragms can take minor leakage, repair would be difficult. One thing that can be done is polish the actuator rod where it reciprocates through a seal-and then a drop of lube. Pic attached. It came to me later that cars with “Performance Monitor” gauges will also have a vacuum hose connection to somewhere on the intake. Dunno whether the vacuum gauge is plumbed with the HVAV connection. From: chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <chrysler-300-club-international@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> On Behalf Of dplotkin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Just remember that an original switch will have delicate nipples. If you yank the hose assembly off the back of an original or even sufficiently old switch, the nipples will come with it. Danny Plotkin
The hose coming off of the rear of the intake manifold goes into the cabin through a 4-hole grommet. Mine travel into the cabin and slides onto the lower-center hole of my AC/Heater Switch. Years ago, I made this poor version of where all hoses lived on the back of my AC/Heater Switch & where those hoses go. The vacuum feed line is represented as #6 on this poor chart.
