Hey, glad it worked for you. It’s actually a horseshoe, not a J-hook. Now that it’s open, locate the horseshoe and pop it out. Then remove the lock so you don’t accidentally close it again. Rather than having a key made, you can find the correct replacement lock fairly easily, since it was used 59 thru mid-60s. Ebay is a good place to start.

 

Also, post this to the listserver, since others may have encountered this issue as well.

Well I fashioned the tool, but could not see the Jhook, but there was a slot, pushed the flat head in and voila’ it opened.

Thanks so much Ron, made my day to get in there and access all the parts…
