Hi,
Maybe someone has listed all this information regarding PS pumps. I had posted about this a few months back, and it's still unresolved.
I started up a C with a rebuilt pump for the first time (stock pump, rebuilt on car when I bought car, car was as a partially finished "kit") ; it seized solid 15 min later, taking out the belts.
I talked briefly by email with Carmen at Steer and Gear , have had great luck with them on 60 up pumps. He implied 57-58 pumps are kind of a dog, he said many guys change them to Thompson pumps. That means nothing to me, maybe later PS pump like on F? and maybe fit earlier hemi bracket? Or some 57/8 had Thompson pumps? But the '60 is 1000 psi, a newer steerting box. Apparently there were many suppliers in 56-59,---- I do know many dodges came with Vickers pump, Lares wanted 600 to rebuild one, no one else would touch it. Right, on the 600$ I do not know for sure but the smaller box used in Dodges and Plympuths, 57-59 I think is the same or similar to what was used 60 up in Chrysler?
So at if anyone has gotten into this to any degree, what is the story on PS pumps?
The dodge B block (was Vickers) I converted to Saginaw /GM a great pump, but Chrysler's coaxial PS runs about 600- 700 PSI, not 1000 . I found out there is a kit for saginaw to bring it down to 600 , easy to do, I used it, and banjo fitting to turn output line 90, better suited to mopar , on a stude with 270 hemi ,Ford rack. . The kit is sold for use with a Ford Musrtang rack, also 600, as used with many GM engines in hot rods etc( Speed way Motors)
On the C I had 2 more 57 pumps like the first one on the shelf from earlier car stripping; I used one it worked. But I'm afraid to go anywhere,
Do people have trouble with 57/8 pumps?
I am debating making an adapter set up for Saginaw to 392, but is it needed? One rqaod block is the need for two groove pulley for saginaw , all GM are apparently 1 belt for PS
Maybe a sale item? Any comments welcome and thinks to a few who answered first time..
