Re: {Chrysler 300} 300 G conv sells for $62k

I have vague recollections of the late 90's and early 2000's as peak years for Letter Car auction values, with prices hovering around $200K at BJ for nicely restored convertibles.  The dollar was also more valuable then, to boot.
I agree about age and the will to do any  more restorations.  I brought a 55 and a 57 back from the dead in the early 90's and late 90's.  Many of us know practically every nut and bolt of certain years of Letter Car, and had great fun dismantling and rebuilding them at the time.  I still know how, and have much more leisure time to do so, but the mind can make lots of promises the body can no longer fulfill.    I've settled into turning wrenches now to keep what I own in good condition so I can enjoy partaking of shows/cruises, but when I look back at pictures of bodies coming off of frames, engine hoists lifting drivetrains out of engine bays, etc.  I wonder what friends, neighbors, and wife were thinking about the massive undertakings of my youthful exuberance. ;-)  It was a blast getting dirty during deconstruction, and very satisfying putting all renewed pieces back together and staying completely clean in the process.  Thankfully, they were fairly simple cars, and restoration costs were a lot less than now.  Not sure what I would do if I tried to do the same level of restoration on a new vehicle.  Guess I'll never know. I'm enjoying watching my son-in-law resto-modding his 68 Cadillac Coupe deVille with Ford 9" rear, later model front frame for better braking and steering, and a fuel  injected LS and 4L something-something overdrive transmission, etc.  Coming together nicely for him.

This result tells me that most of the students of the car are beyond another restoration and that the rest of the hobby doesn't see the value (market or posterity) in letter cars. Happened to old Fords too.

Yes, it's getting ridiculous. This would have been an $85,000 car a few years ago.
