Fwd: Re: {Chrysler 300} Tires for 300 C

Hi Gary,

Let's discuss the questions related to your inquiry for replacing your C's tires.

Coker has a new generation of radials it began manufacturing back a year or so ago, including offering the 235/75R14 size preferred for your C, my F and other Letter Cars owned by our members. Coker sourced American Classics of this size until a couple years ago when their quality deteriorated so badly that manufacture of those halted.

I was running a set of these American Classics on my F that I purchased about 6 years ago. Ran them only about 25,000-30,000 miles and they needed replacement. I haven't looked in the past couple months, but Coker's pricing on these was about $480/tire. When at Chryslers at Carlisle last July, I stopped by Coker's booth and discussed these Coker newly designed radials and, of course, the Rep spoke very highly of them. To date, I've seen no reviews of these new Cokers.

Several of our members have offered testimony on the Diamondback radials and they're all highly satisfied. DIamondback's largest 14" size is 225/75R14, with no current plans to manufacture the 235/75R14 size. Although in prior years, Diamondback has vulcanized whitewall rubber onto other manufacturers' tires - Michelin, BF Goodrich, Hankook, Vredstein, etc. - this current size offering is Diamondback's own design and manufacture, including the whitewalls formed into the tires it's building.

I purchased a set of these new Diamondbacks for my F late last August. Diamondback was running a pre-Labor Day sale at the time, pricing a set of 4 of these 225/75R14 whitewalls, including shipping and sales tax, for $1,000! I added road hazard insurance to mine for a modest upcharge. When I called to place my order in August, their sales rep mentioned the upcoming sale and told me to hold off a few days on my order. The lead time from order to delivery was a little over 3 weeks, as promised. Ask about this when you call!

I've attached a photo, comparing my new 225/75R14 Diamondbacks to my old 235/75R14 American Classics. The height difference between the two is minimal. The tread pattern is of course very different. The tread width is markedly narrower on the Diamondbacks. Balancing them when mounting was fairly easy - very little added weight was required. Had them mounted at our Club member Jay Hackleman's Goodyear store, located near me.

Discussing the tread pattern when I ordered the new tires, the salesman explained that the current offering is Diamondback's own manufacture, and not using the spine of any other. He said the tread pattern of these tires is as closely as possible copied from Michelin Supreme without infringing on their patents.

I've put about 400 miles on these tires in October / November and am very happy with them. Ask Hank Hallowell - who is running Diamondbacks on 20+ of his classics.

p.s. - When at Jay's having the tires mounted, we saw that my F's 66-year old rear springs were fatigued. Jay has been sourcing rear leafs for his several Letter Cars from ESPO Springs n Things, so I placed my order in early October. They were delivered to Jay's shop today. The all-in pricing, as Laura quoted to me when ordered, was $754, includes - springs (factory spec), shackle kit, end bolts and UPS shipping. Manufactured in Danville, PA. Note that ESPO is working down its leaf spring stock and will not be reordering, so will be winding down at some future date. Laura also commented that they're working through their 'B' and 'E' Body Mopar spring stock considerably faster than for our full-sized Chryslers, but their end-date will eventually arrive.

Between diamond back  and coker radials which on would be recommended in the 235/75R14 size?

Thanks to all in 300 Letter Car Land.
