We were in the Cheyenne rail yard when 4014 was towed in from Pomona Ca. The rebuilding of this engine was quite impressive. Cheyenne's UP  steam shop is well worth a visit. There are a few internationally known engines stored in their roundhouse.

Last summer on its mid American tour through Texas, I was able to drive up to the town of West (north of Waco) and see it in person as it stopped there for about 45 minutes.  Amazing to see it up close and to hear it as it came into town and then to hear it pulling away.  Very impressive.  Talk about torque!

I want to see this . They were built to pull long freights uphill into/ over  Rockies west out of Wyoming  , turn around  and   do it again . I have a film showing changing   the outer steel tire rim on wheel , 7-8 feet I think , shrunk on wheel by hand with hammers  red hot
Wore  out those  steel wheels regularly too , had to weigh a  million pounds to get traction for unbelievable hp it made
Today takes like 8 max power diesels. Steam locomotives are unbelievable , especially this one
