Personally I would not use ether to start… if it won’t start with a little gas down the carb then there is something wrong…
But I think you are doing fine using non-ethanol 90 with booster. 
See Bob Merritt’s video about priming carbs.  Can also install small electric pump near tank for priming carbs.  Otherwise a basic rebuild of your 2903’s may be in order….
