RE: {Chrysler 300} Electric chokes on 2903S carbs?

Henry-

The electric chokes I'm familiar with are nothing more than mechanical chokes, a wound bimetallic spring with a piece of nichrome wire heating element behind it. The "heater" is on whenever ignition is on (the choke should be wired to the ignition side of the ignition switch or ignition switch side of the ballast).

Under-hood residual heat, which spikes at shutdown and then slowly cools is well more than sufficient to keep the choke open, no different than a mechanical choke.

The electric choke will operate exactly the way the (properly operating) stock chokes work.

I have a question about electric chokes that someone with experience may enlighten me.

With a “normal” choke the residual heat from the inlet (or exhaust) manifolds hangs around for quite some time.  So, if you stop your car after a run and then start it say ½ hour later, there is enough heat to prevent the choke re-engaging.

However, with an electric choke, I wonder if the choke gets “cold” quickly and could re-engage when the otherwise warm engine gets restarted.  I have no experience with electric chokes so I would like to know if this is an issue.

I know with my hemi6 Val, once I start it for the day, the fast idle doesn’t kick in again regardless of the number of stops I do.  I’d hate to think an electric choke would engage again and again.

Anyway, I’m not planning to change mine as it works a treat.  People can let me know directly with their experiences.

Cheers

Henry

Had anyone installed electric chokes on the ram induction 2903S carburetors?

A friend has two 1960 ram cars and he's convinced he needs electric chokes.

Didn't find anything in the tech archives.
