I have also worked with Eaton for the last 40 years and have always been very pleased with the product. I first worked with Mike Eaton back around 1990 when he was able to perfectly duplicate the original leaf springs on my 63 Sport Fury. What makes Eaton so capable is the extensive file of original spring drawings . At the time they were able to duplicate OEM drawing load deflection. I recall being able to supply Eaton with drawings from the Chrysler engineering blueprint vault for Imperials from the 1930s that they needed. But they have or had at the time ,prints for most makes back to the 1920s. Eaton has a small foundry in back where they can heat treat and temper steel . I have a spare set of rear leaf springs for my 57 and 58 300s that Mike made for me. That said I believe Mike’s daughter is running the business today. I don’t intend to make this a commercial and it has been a few years since I needed their services but they are more than just spring repair and replacement shop. We’ve not tried Eaton yet, but have heard from other club members, a mix bag of results from zero problems to failure/drooping in short order for rear leaf springs.

This is what the gasket looks like when the lock strip is pried out. It just pries out, as shown. I went to buy a piece of glass and gasket from a salvage yard, one of those where they pull the parts for you, and whoever did it ruined the gasket by pulling the little strip completely off the gasket. The strip stays with the gasket, don’t tear it off, just pry it open. This allows the glass to have space to move because the gasket becomes less rigid.

There is a lock strip in the rubber on the exterior. This will need to simply be popped out. Not torn off, just popped loose. If you look at the bottom corners of the gasket you may see a hole or divot, you can use a small Phillips screwdriver to start it going. The interior edge of the strip comes out, meaning the edge closer to the glass. If you want a picture I’ll take one and send it.
