Do not cut or damage the original gaskets when removing the glass. Soak them in lanolin until they are soft and pliable again. A common source for lanolin is mechanics hand cleaners like Gojo.(ensure it has lanolin) I like the large tubs they sell as refills
for wall mounted pump machines in mechanical shops; the product without pumice.
I start by brushing it on heavily and keeping it in a plastic bag or bin. Keep treating it until it becomes soft and supple again. For me, the worst dried out and hard seals (from a California car) took several months of sitting and soaking to restore
but they came back and cleaned up like near new. I did those ones 23 years ago and they’re still nice to this day.
If you’ve already damaged your originals, I’d start looking for a parts car to get them from. And those of you who have parts cars and are removing glass, keep in mind there is/will be value in the gaskets not just the glass.
