300 Fellows,
Today I discuss traveling to Canada. Our itinerary does not include any trips there, but this is written for those that want to venture across the border. First of all, you need a passport, a passport card, NEXUS, or an enhanced driver's license if you live in one of 5 bordering states (New York included). I am not going to repeat the details of those requirements here, you can see them in a link off of our 300 club website under the Events page. My experience is that customs can ask more questions of you when you return to the US than when you go to Canada. I suggest taking your 300 meet nametag. If you do have any questions on Canada after reading our webpage you can write me or Jamie Hyde and we can try to answer them for you.
Off of Buffalo and across the Peace Bridge is Fort Erie, Ontario. Top things to do there include visiting Old Fort Erie (war of 1812 site), Fort Erie Race Track (check the racing schedule), dining at Happy Jack's Restaurant and Patio, an age old nice Chinese restaurant with views of the Niagara River, plenty of golf, and several parks. The view of the Peace Bridge and Niagara RIver alone from Fort Erie is spectacular.
Across the Rainbow Bridge from Niagara Falls, USA is its sister city Niagara Falls, Ontario. While I am partial to the US side, many people enjoy the Falls from the Canadian side. It is certainly a bit more commercial, while the US side emphasizes its park setting. There is a lot to do, for sure, including the Falls View, Whirlpool Aero Car, Niagara City Cruises (Maid of the Mist Equivalent in Canada), Niagara Skywheel, Butterfly Conservatory, Whirlpool Jet Boat Tours, Clifton Hill Entertainment (including Ripley's Believe it or not), and the Floral Clock. You really should plan on spending an extra day or so if you want to really do some of these things!
I could envision someone flying into Pearson Airport in Toronto, which is about a 90 minutes drive to Niagara Falls, Ontario. If you do, be patient, as traffic on the Queen Elizabeth Way can get slow at times.
P.S. I will not offer commentary on Canadian Tariffs as I have read the listserver rules and do not want to be at the wrath of Bob Merritt and the Board!
I still have updates coming up on Buffalo, Niagara Falls USA, and on Western New York Area Attractions. Stay tuned!
Sincerely,
Ron Klinczar, on behalf of Jamie Hyde and Bob Merritt
