RE: {Chrysler 300} Fw: AACA Original Class Judging Plus 300H Trunk Mat Question

Agree with this.  Went to the Mustang shop to buy the 1965 type original plaid trunk mat which is PVC with a fluffy backing.  The shop owner told me they have them but wouldn’t sell me one unless I was desperate for concourse, because they will not let water out and will rust the floor (which happens to be the top of the fuel tank).  He advised the best thing to use is a “marine carpet” because it lets any water evaporate out easily.  I then used a black version of this https://www.bunnings.com.au/ideal-diy-eildon-charcoal-flat-marine-carpet-charcoal_p6620070

I used stick on Velcro strips to hold outer edges down where it had to mould around corners but was otherwise easy to fit and looks good.  For my 300C, however, I did go for the beautiful Gary Goers grey carpet replica.  Recommend those if you can still get them but imagine they could stay soggy if you have a leak.

Those rubber trunk

Mats were the worst idea.

If their is any moisture there the mats make shure

It never drys out.

Always rust under them.

Go with a real carpet mat.

We have a reference page for trunks.

The H page is http://www.chrysler300club.com/trunk/h/h.html

Those reference pictures are from

my original mat probably 25 years ago.

It was mighty brittle then, is more brittle now

and I doubt I could remove it again.

I don't think anyone ever repopped the H mats but I have

heard of new mats being made. Might be someone would

undertake the project for Letter Cars.

Subject: AACA Original Class Judging Plus 300H Trunk Mat Question

This past weekend the AACA held its Western National Meet in Tucson so I entered our unrestored 300H coupe for evaluation in the Original Class. It did well, earning an Original badge. It lost a few points for my switch to radial tires as I drive it regularly, plus the addition of an electric auxiliary fuel pump for priming purposes. I also learned the current fabric trunk mat had replaced the original rubber mat at some point. Does anyone have an original mat they could snap a photo of so I could see what sort of pattern it had?

Thanks for any help or advice.
