Re: {Chrysler 300} Pinion seal

Let me throw this out there for all to maybe remember.
This is true on seals , bearings, races and many other parts.
If you can disassemble first, look for a part # on the part.
Using that #, you can find the part. It doesn't matter what it fits. It is what you need.
Seals are made to fit a need. To prevent seepage, to prevent pressure leaks, to keep fluids separate,
So, the vendor may not have a listing for your need, but may well have the part in stock by #.

On bearings, each part has a #. Inner race, outer race and the bearing itself.
They used to be sold as sets, but now the manufacturing is so precise, they can be sold individually.
This is because Bearing Manufacturing Companies design bearings, not the users. During user's design, all the engineering is supplied to the Bearing folks and they tell the user, make the hole this size and here is your outer race part #, make the inner hole this size and here is your inner race # and here's your bearing #.
Most likely, if you have a Ford modeL T, get the # 's off the front wheel bearing and your friendly parts guy will not have a listing, but will likely have the bearing in stock. Because it fits dozens if not hundreds of different uses.

All this is from memories from the last century, might not be accurate now but it usta was.
Ray Jones, still functioning!

Yes, that is the dust cover portion of the universal rear yoke.
The seal is under that.

Full repair instructions are in the FSM (Factory Service Manual) section #3
Special tools are required, not for the faint of heart!
You will need a hefty wrench and socket to remove the yoke (it is torqued to 240 ft lbs!) from the pinion a drive shaft wrench to hold the yoke while doing so plus a puller to pull the seal from the case.
Then a heavy-duty torque wrench for reassembly.

IMHO, this job is best left to a shop equipped with the proper tools and know how to handle the task.
But then.....I'm not a spring chicken any more.
Good luck

Interesting
That's the one that is too small.  Am I measuring a dust cover and not the seal? I'm measuring 3.5 inches and seal is 3.1. It's not apart yet.

First time doing a pinion seal.

Ask them to run those numbers and you should come up with a winner.

Good morning
Looking for the correct pinion seal for a 1961 300G.  Advanced auto shows a 7216 which is clearly too small.

Any suggestions?

Thank you
