Re: {Chrysler 300} Re: Delta Wing Air Cleaners

Yes he's a nice guy and understands these cars and doesn't have an delusions of making money on them. And having a 300B as your first letter car isn't a bad thing. I may still have one some day.

That’s heartening to hear that a 27 year old is familiar with the ‘55/‘56 cars and bought these to (hopefully) resurrect and will be joining the Club.

I love hearing stories like that.

Happy 2025,

It's all going now. A 27-year old got the 300B and a 55 imperial coupe. He's well familiar with the 55-56 cars and this is his first 300. He's going to get it going again and going to join the club.

Nick,

Going from memory I'd say this is a '56 example.  As I recall the '55 had much more structure to it and was not "straw" but more of a metal.  Wayne Graefen and I looked at those cars in Alpine probably 35 years ago.  The stuff has been for sale a long time.

I added a more pictures showing the inside.

Everything fits together nicely. Probably sat in the trunk of the car it was in for 30+ years.

Nick,

A couple of questions:

1.    Do the top and bottom of each canister fit into each other correctly?

2.    The differences are the material used as the actual filter components.  From what I've seen the '55 was a much finer component and the '56 was more open.  Based on your photos I can't see the detail needed to comment.  Currently I only have the '56 version.  Years ago I wrote an article on this and you may find it on the club's website.

As you state, once on the car you can't tell the difference.  With that said the '55-'56 units actually built by AC Delco were unique to these "Chryslers" alone.  There were several versions from several GM cars, Packards and possibly more during that era.

I picked up a delta wing air cleaner yesterday that is supposed to be for a 300B. When I got home and looked into it, I see there are differences between 1955 and 1956 but don't have specifics.

Can you tell from these photos if this is a 1955 or 1956 version? Once on the car, can you tell the difference?

And no, I don't want to sell it at this time.

Also, how much is a good 1955-56 horn ring worth, with and without the center?

Thanks, Nick.
