Re: {Chrysler 300} 1962 Trans. Installation

I've done my share of engine R & R and what I've found works for me is to install the engine and trans together as a unit.

If I did the engine and trans separately, I would put the trans in after the engine, but putting them in together saves the amount of time on your back wrestling with the trans.  If you don't have access to a decent trans jack, this is huge.  Yes, I've done it with a floor jack, but I was younger at the time with young muscles to lift/move/balance when it didn't quite bolt up.

An engine "load leveler" is a cheap investment (under $50) and will help you get the proper angle to install both.  If you don't have a "cherry picker" type engine hoist, either buy one or rent one.

Hope this helps, John

I have a rebuilt engine & trans to install.
(In all honesty; it is for the NY Wagon versus the 300 Sport or 300 H)

I am considering installing the transmission solo….Before I install the engine.
Reason being is how scary it is to tilt both engine & trans into the car; as I do this in my backyard without a car lift.

Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to install the trans.?
I have a normal jack & jack stands; but not a transmission jack.

I have the factory service manual; but not some of the Chrysler tools it calls for.

Just wondering if there are helpful hints is all.
And once installed….Can it spend some time without the engine supporting its front?
Or shall I use my floor jack to rest the front of the trans on?

Thanks!
