Re: {Chrysler 300} Heater Control valve

John, Chrysler did not own the nonsense which is the capillary tube controlled heater valve manufactured by Ranco Corporation.

My 1956 Cadillac our 1960 Buicks and a whole host of other medium priced and up American cars use that stupid valve, which works exactly as you describe.  No heat when you want it and heat when you don't and hot water on the floor occasionally when you least expect it.

hi , i have been doing this for years . I had two interior rugs ruined by that small gasket on the valve shaft failing .It fails on a very hot day when pressure is on it from radiator,  so not a drip a huge instant flood of hot antifreeze .
The whole idea of temp regulating water in a car heater is just flat out not  too swift , or Chrysler’s brother in law owned that company .
I use a heater valve from a 78 dodge truck , it is designed to just be supported in line by the heater hose .Thot lets you place it so the stock bowden wire length works . no bracket needed , straight line .
And then when you want heat you get it , not later on if thermo valve  is happy .
Too much ? push lever it stops instantly , not like the thermo valve that wants to argue about it .. maybe .
This kind of direct heat control was in every dart , and i loved it . Much more so than fancy stuff today .
Hummer valve is similar and cheaper , i have seen 15$ on ebay , but may work opposite way . You can live with that or modify which side the cable sheath is attached to , to turn it around functionally .
Agree , done with this hassle ,goes  into  trash can next to heat riser valve  from rams

I just placed an order for the Vintage Air servo heater control valve. I really want to get the valve out of the cockpit. Over the decades I have head them start to leak and stain carpet. In addition, on the 300K it is a real PITA to get too. Removing the glove box and a wiper link and the cable catching on things to get it off…

My plan is to make a bracket to screw into the same holes as the existing and then mount the unit on it on the engine side. Since they make a linear potentiometer for use with a cable, I can make a little bracket and place inside the dash down low and accessible and then just run the wire out to the valve.

I may also look at making a bracket with a short rid with some spherical joints to push pull on the POT right at the back of the controller and do away with the cable entirely.

When I am done, I will post some photos of how it all works or not. I mean for a $160 and a couple of hours of work to get that thing out and more accessible, if it works it will be a good thing for a daily driver.

James
