Re[2]: {Chrysler 300} J and Ram K under hood pad

Hood pad standard on J, optional on K.  I have a Goers pad on my J, hood closes fine, but the cleaners press against the pad and the paint on the cleaners starts to wear with use.
I'm using the correct (modern) carb gaskets that Bob Merritt sells, you use two per carb to get the proper thickness.

I've seen at least one ram K window sticker showing the undercoating with hood pad option listed on it. Mine didn't come with that. The air cleaners are all the same height except the 400hp earlier ones. And those just used taller filters. With the filters installed, the lower rim of the lid should be flush with the base. Are you using phenolic spacers under the carbs?

Folks

Dominick Rinaldi installed the new short ram motor in our 4 speed K and I visited his shop today to see how things were going . One strange thing is that the hood will not fully close because the pad (a pad I got from Gary in the early 2000’s that’s still in perfect shape) is just too thick and doesn’t close over the air cleaners. I’m fairly certain that the air cleaners are the correct ones (the carbs are definitely correct) and we’re pretty certain removing the pad (or cutting two round holes in the pad, ala’ Max Wedge hoods) will remedy the issue. As a reminder, this is a 4 speed car with a single four barrel, which was all you could get with the A833.

Was there a lower profile air cleaner that these cars should have or perhaps a very thin pad or no pad at all on these cars?

This may be another question for Carl ….

Thanks,

Keith
