Re: {Chrysler 300} 1964 Ram 300K cleaner air package air cleaner

John,

Later cars that used a grommet for the PCV and the breather, and a separate twist-in oil filler cap. I would have to look up when the change was. I know my '68 383 Barracuda still has the stand pipes for the PCV and oil filler/breather. It may have been a change in 1969 or 1970. I know it was changed by 1971. And those breather caps can have multiple nipples for sucking in air.

I assume since they are sucking air into the engine on the breather that they are trying to keep it from sucking in dirt or moisture?

perfect as it is . Leave them alone .
But I wanted  to point out the purpose of pcv inlet hose —- v cover to cleaner is as an air intake . So absolutely no point in connecting two air cleaners on that . Once you have clean PCV intake air you have it — done
. Interesting though , the use of english . PCV hose is the one from pcv valve to vacuum inlet . Not air cleaner . Can cause confusion and has . See next part
Many cars have no inlet pcv plumbing , using the oil inlet filter as the air intake .
I had a swapped in later 383 in a 58 dodge ( was a six we think ) that had what looked like a pcv valve , exactly , in valve cover but nothing inside it .(??) The PO had plumbed that to the large PVC vacuum port on edelbrock carb . All he got was a huge vacuum leak !! no wonder “ does not run right “ only one of 100 mistakes on this car , this was the one with swap  R and L of wheel cylinders which forced bleeders to bottom . He even made a special connection tube as those were upside  down too , and longer front hoses with new routing , new frame clips .
Back to PCV on 58’, I almost missed this crazy thing , pulled “PCV” to look if clean  . Empty . Can’t take credit for finding this , but clearly made my day . once in 100 you win one .

So I wondered where that factory looking fitting came from . Now after reading this , maybe California emissions used two valve covers with the same grommet , one held PCV one held phony “ PCV” so they used same grommet and the typical 90 degree  turn , for air in , (!) especially under rams , if like that ?
great post !
They fooled me…

I went and picked up the original engine to my 300K from the previous owner. When I was there, he showed me a complete ram system from a 300J that he just bought. Exhaust to air cleaners. Even had a couple good heat riser pipes. He asked me if I’d ever seen a ram air cleaner with a breather nipple on it. Sure enough, one of the air cleaners is a ’64 one with the nipple for the cleaner air package! Just what I need for my L.A. sold ram 300K. I’ve never actually seen one with the nipple.

The other air cleaner he had had the earlier orientation on the air cleaner base indexer. I showed him the difference and he’s going to see if they can find the matching 1964 one for the right side. I'm hoping to get these for my car.

The parts book shows 2463961 as the one with the hose to the breather. The parts book says this is for the right side but that has to be a mistake as the breather hose would go to the oil filler cap on the left valve cover.

Anyone have a ram 300K with the factory breather connection on the air cleaner?
