I agree with Rick. I used two layers of shrink tube just to add durability. Did it 12 years ago on my G using the original shift cable, still no leaks. I tried the reproduction shift cable (still have it) didn’t like how it performed. You’re better off with the original if the only problem is leakage. I have successfully repaired leaking shift cables with quality heat shrink tube and 'Buna' o rings. Also route cable away from exhaust pipe or shield from the heat.
