Re: {Chrysler 300} Problem

Hi Bill ,
not many seem to have the pipes , i have an original F with them but it is not nearby . i never touched it , terra cotta  with very low miles all original down to the paper stickers , but suffering form 45 years of sitting , a “someday  car “ — was thinking go for concours back in  1980 , due to originality but not really a concours guy.  .

I Have another more typical condition black  F too ,with it ,  will never get to them , want to sell .
If interested … Terra cotta one is however kind of special raw material . Paint might come back …

I have a different suggestion ,
You may be able to find at napa a preformed molded hose on the rack you can  cut a piece from that would make that bend . The copper pipes were probably hand bent on a jig , so few were made . So a guy was sloppy sometimes regarding orientation of two ends , as inherently separate operations ? Possible answer .

So , I really like how it cleans up the  “ ram
look” , probably Rogers himself wanted them? Think about that picture of him with spiffed up ram engine . He is happy .  . Why add the rather significant expense and hassle of doing the pipes   , otherwise ? cost was way over the plain hoses you will need anyway on any car ?

The other fix might be finding a thin wire SS spring of right OD to put inside the hose you have .. like the ones you saw in old radiator lower hoses for same reason — stop the  folding inwards
I don’t know about SS but Lee Spring has thousands of stock springs . Steel may be ok too for 20 years .

I had a similar problem with by pass hose on a 392 with hot heads . the stock thermostat water log does not fit as water ports on the  heads are farther apart , as HH heads are taller . HH makes a kind of mickey mouse looking AN hose deal to fix that , — I made offset adapters to use the stock 392 water log , that also moved it forward 1/2” — that tight bend bypass hose would not go . After much bs over such a seemingly simple thing , I  ended up using copper sweat ells  ( 3/4 for that ) but 1/2 (?) for you . With straight pieces  of hose  .  There are 45 too . looks ok — actually the same look as tubing , two added wire clamps , probably looks better than stock with an obviously stressed hose bend that flattens .
Hope one of these helps , all my best
John G

PS big thanks to Rich B on reaching out to Gary , most be close to the same 30 - 40 years since he first helped me . An utterly good guy , the very best.—- on top of the untouchable  skill …

Could someone in the group help me solve a problem.  My 300G came with the copper pipes that run under the rams for the heater.  When I position the pipes, the pipe on the driver’s side ends up facing straight up at the 12 o-clock position at the rear.  I believe that it should be  closer to the 2 or 3 o-clock position.  As it is the heater hose cannot bend to meet the heater control box fitting without the hose collapsing on itself.  This is the way the heater hose was before I took the engine apart.

I have studied Bob Merritt’s excellent photo essay on cleaning up his 300G display engine,  His copper pipes seem to fit correctly at the rear.  My pipes match his at the front.  I can’t see where I am going wrong.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
