Re: {Chrysler 300} Tire Recommendation

The last time I researched tires, the best 4 options for narrow whitewall in P235/75R15 were Toyo Extensa AS, Hankook H724, Nexen N'Priz AH5, and Cooper Trendsetter SE. I have not had problems with the Hankooks or Nexens - or for that matter the Toyos. Your experience may vary. But I believe the Hankook H724 and the Toyo Extensa AS have been discontinued / replaced and not sure if the replacements are still available in whitewall as well as blackwall.

There are also Maxxis MA1 and Gremax 5000 as well as Milestar MA775 and a host of Chinese junk names that no one ever heard of. I cant comment on the Maxxis other than they make terrific ATV tires. As to the Gremax and the Milestar, I believe they are also marketed under other names. Cant say anything specific other than a Milestar I saw was very wimpy and I believe Chinese.

There are no doubt other blackwall tires in that size, possibly even Michelin in an XL configuration for light trucks (though those may be discontinued by now) - but you might consider having Diamond Back vulcanize some custom whitewalls on one of those. Or of course there are Coker's American Classic$.

Hi Kurt,
The original H tires were GoodYear 760
- 15 Blue Streak bias ply nylon with 1” white walls. If interested, I can text you a picture since I have an original spare.
The affordable tires that I used on my 2 H’s were Cooper 235-75-R-15’s but only came with a 3/4” white wall. The last set that I purchased had to be returned because the black rubber compound bled thru the white wall turning it yellow. I then purchased TOYO EXTENSA A/S to solve the yellowing problem , but, alas they are also yellowing. Don’t who to recommend.

I’ve only driven it twice before I dove into some restoration tasks…I’m glad I didn’t do much more otherwise I might have had tire failure while driving.  I wish they were road worthy…I really love the hashed white stripe along with one solid.

Wow! Amazing that you're still driving around on those. Does it get much road use?

How does it drive? I heard that the captive air tires affected the handling due to the weight and stiffness, but those were the earlier ones with the sidewall tire valves.

Would be an interesting story for the newsletter if it hasn't been covered before.

Good morning!

I am looking for a good set of new tires for my 1962 300H.  I absolutely love the ones that are on the car right now -- Goodyear "Double Eagle" twin whitewalls with lots of tread -- but they're date coded 1967 (!) and close inspection of the inward-facing sidewalls shows some cracking.

Looking for something safe with good ride quality that looks good too.  Appreciate the feedback in advance!

Thanks,

Kurt
