Re: {Chrysler 300} Dashboard removal - 1962 300H

Thank you Bob (and Bob Merritt and Charlie Valentine)!  I found the two posts and nuts  hidden behind the translucent “keys”, wow, what a relief.

While we’re on the subject, I really admire the quality of materials and engineering behind the translucent keys and how they guided light to illuminate the buttons for occupants.  I am curious as to whether or not Chrysler engineers employed use of a plastic material with a specific index of refraction to internally “trap” or guide light to maximize luminosity?  It wouldn’t surprise me…they had great engineers!  Does anyone happen to know?

Mechanism attaches to the dash with two nuts. Just remove the chrome button bezel and you will see them.
Then mech can just be moved
Out of the way no need to
Detach cable from push button control.

Dear club members -

I plan to remove the dashboard from my 1962 300H address original paint that has failed with age -- owing to its inherent beauty, it deserves to look better.  I've done some limited research and have identified the various bolts that secure it in place (e.g., near the windshield and kick panels), but one item in particular appears troublesome -- where the transmission cable attaches to the back of the push-button selector.  I've attached a reference picture from a spare dashboard that I acquired from a donor car.

It looks as though there is be pin where the transmission cable attaches to the selector - is the best course of action to disconnect the cable at this point or is there a better solution?  From the limited analysis I've done, it doesn't appear that the selector panel detaches from the dash (if so, I wouldn't have to remove the cable from the pin).

Appreciate any and all help!

Thanks,

Kurt
