The 1959 300E was originally owned by Ev and Joan Merritt of Portland, OR. It was restored by James Bennett of Tillamook, OR. Ev had the Blue leather replaced and James Bennett painted the 300E. James Bennett, ran the body shop for a Chev dealership in Tillamook and restored many 300’s at his home workshop. I remember a 300 that James replace the metal top. Barbara Bennett still has a 1957 300C Convertible. I have not seen the Bennett’s for over 20 years. Jerry & Page Schlegel are related to the Bennett’s. I called Jerry and Page Schlegel to confirm that he Blue leather was replaced. Both are still members of our Club.

Dr. Clifford Stranburg of Beaverton, died Jan 16, 2021 at age 84. Cliff has a 1957 300C convertible, Copper Brown. He bought it at an auction in San Francisco about 25 years ago. He has a large collection of cars, mostly Franklins. The 300C was restored in Sweden. He had a 1931 Duesenberg which he sold three years ago at Pebble Beach for about $1,200,000. The Duesenberg was on display at America’s Car Museum in Tacoma, WA for many years.

That’s the hammer price, exclusive of buyer commission. If you watch the YouTube, you'll see the $48k reflects the actual $$ bid, with buyer commissions later assessed on settlement by the auction house..

Our Club knows this E. Per Gloria M and Andy M, the E’s blue interior was special order factory issue and, I'm told, was seen at the 2006 Oklahoma Meet. The interior of this E looks to be original, including the E seats' factory embossing, from the auctioneer's marketing photos -

Also, as with Fs, the E seat leather of special order interiors was not perforated as was the standard tan leather, as this E displays.
