A single layer of felt/tarpaper should be adequate as the replaced pieces are mostly for visual appearance purpose. They should be painted body color so one may want to shoot the inside of the trunk lid unless the inside of the trunk surfaces can be satisfactorily matched. On our old C-300, the original Platinum/white had reacted with the tarry chemicals in the felt to produce an orangey color—probably hard to duplicate. One may want to shoot some primer over the felt to seal it, especially with lighter colors. And, you may want to shoot some primer on the bare (and likely lightly corroded) metal surfaces that had been hidden under the removed tarpaper liner. Yes, dreaded project creep.
