Exactly.

There is some give on the inner skin metal braces

so you can do some wedging of the new material.

Could you elaborate on how it is installed? Obviously you can’t take the deck lid apart, so how do you fit replacement pads? Cut out old and glue in new? Pull out old from under lid bottom and somehow slide in new?

This past fall I ordered a set from Query and reported back to them that both pads were under size and not allowing a press fit under the hood braces. All worked out well as Query provided me with bulk replacement pad material. Suggest you provide needed pad dimensions before you order.
