RE: [Chrysler300] Judging

Hi Warren,

Welcome to the Chrysler 300 Club. Glad you are keeping the original factory color for your 300D Convert.

We have a 1957 300C Coupe, Copper Brown (metallic),  which we purchased July  19, 1958. It is still all original and the paint looks like it just rolled out of the factory. The only change to the engine is the compression ratio which is 10 ½ when we rebuilt the engine in  July 1970. The 300C runs great.

To all to are concerned with originality, a car is only original once.  The first time it is repainted, it is no longer original, even if painted with the original color.  In the case of cars with 50’s lacquer, that type of lacquer is no longer available, so most repaints are of a lower quality lacquer (rare), single stage enamel or clear coat.  However, since it has been pointed out that there is a substantial deduction for a color not matching the data plates, I will return the car to its original color and interior.   I’ll also point out that most of us restore cars to better than showroom condition.  We like to say, “That’s how it came from the factory!”, but that is almost never true.  Our gaps will be perfect, paint better than original and chrome better than original.  I thank everyone for their input and a couple of years from now, you can be looking for a 300D convertible that hasn’t been on the road or out of storage for over 45 years.

Warren
