Thanks for that tip. It does seem that the general wisdom confirms 11"x3" front brakes on a 300L.
I don't have any plans to upgrade the rear but, I do appreciate the advice. Even though the engineering is 50ish years old, and newer cars are full of improvements, my driving habits are such that I never push the envelope enough to worry about it.

Front is okay. But if you want to go with a wider drum in the rear (11x3) not only will you need new drums and shoes for the rear but also new brake shoe support plates that provide the depth needed to properly mount the 11x3 shoes and drums. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt when I upgraded my '64 Newport to K specs.
