[Chrysler300] Amazing little known Chrysler 300 "facts"





These notes from a guy on e-bay hawking a pair of 300 F exhaust manifolds

I sent him an e-mail

I may be “all wet” here. Someone back me up!!

If not, I, and 300 history as I have heard, stand corrected!!

FYI
1960 only. Bracket on right manifold is for generator. Last year used .
61 used alternator. Takes different manifold for right side. 62 did not have rams as factory install.

 

His reply:

Wrong...I have a 61 ram induction engine with alternator and all the factory did was cut that part for the generator off with a chop saw to make room for the alternator. Bought car new so was not a jury rig. Know your facts before talking. This can be done in 10 min if needed for 61 or 62.

My reply:

I think if you check the casting # on your G manifold on your car it will be 2205-853

My F manifold part #s are 1947490 rt and 1947434 left
Should be the same as the ones you have for sale.

2 different castings altogether
Someone taking a chop saw to a pile of 1600 or so manifolds???
I kinda doubt that

Yes it was the factory. If you do a little research you will find out that Chrysler overproduced the long ram manifold setups and the demand didn't turn out as expected. They wound up trying to get rid of them without producing more. Thus as not originally planned it was offered as a limited option thru Oct '62 in convertible 300's and a few other models. My manifolds came from the factory as I purchased the car new thru chry dealership. Did you buy yours new? They were probably using up left over '60 manifolds as don't think they were going to throw them in garbage. Do your homework. I know more than you give me credit for. In '62 they also offered water cooled or should say heated ram manifolds instead of exhaust heated ones. My 1st car was a 1951 Dodge Coronet and now own 12 Chrysler, Dodge, DeSoto and Plymouth cars from 1957 thru 1987. Most of which I drive on a regular basis. Been around and working on them for 60+ years. Tend to learn a few things in that time!!!!

 

PS ram induction was offered as a very limited option thru 1964 on convertibles...look that one up!!!!

 

 

Amazing what you can “learn” on the net, huh???

This begs the question “if so, than why would they need those funky heat riser valve and pipe outlets on cars that used headers.
