Re: [Chrysler300] 300F Transmission

One of the Meet Host's unsung jobs and maybe the most important, is having help in the wings.
We have often had people break down coming to or going or going home from a Meet.
Or, as in Good Old George's case, doing burnouts, and blowing a Rear!
Along with procuring a great Hotel, things to do and places to go for the Members, snacks, Banquet, and all the other little details which drive you mad, We have to have resources for emergencies.
In the 20 plus years I have been coordinating the Meets, we have never had a Host who failed to be "Johnie on the spot" when there was a disaster.

So, for those of you have hosted meets over the years, the members owe a big round of applause for a job well done. Thomas, you now join a long line of great hosts! Thanks again.

And, if any of you members are hesitant to drive your Brute to a meet far, far away, just do it!
Make sure you've done all you can to have it road worthy and enjoy driving it.
This Club and it's Hosts are always ready to help you along the way.

See ya at the next one!

Tom,
I am really glad your F is doing well again. It's so great that everyone got you hooked up again and on the road.

And finally, kudos to you for handling this depressing situation so well. I think my vacation would have been over at that point but you didn't let it get to you.

Here's to one more topless F roaming the streets!

Canton, MI

I got my car back yesterday after installing the rebuilt transmission from Don Verity. Many thanks to him for his quick response to my dilemma of losing it at the VA meet. He took it home in his truck, fixed it and shipped it to me in SC. The car runs better than it ever has!!

Also, thanks to Jeff Carter for sending me his last torque converter. He has always come through for me and I appreciate his many kindnesses and willingness to share.

In hindsight, I believe I know what happened to my car. When I bought the car, the story was that the car had gotten stuck in a snow storm and the driver "burned up" the transmission trying to get the car out of a snow drift. It was then relegated to a field where it nearly rusted away. While restoring the car, I had Don rebuild the transmission, however, I am certain I used the original torque converter. Probably not the smartest thing to do to a part that failed. In removing the transmission in Virginia, it seemed clear that the torque converter was the main cause of the transmission failure.

Lesson learned for me:  Change the transmission fluid every year or so to make certain there is no discoloration of fluid or buildup of metal filings in the transmission pan that would indicate impending doom.

Again, thanks to all the helped and those that were sympathetic to my plight. And thanks to Thomas DeBusk who recommended a great guy at the transmission shop that removed the transmission while in VA.
