[Chrysler300] starter question

keep in mind i am not a mechanic.

ok, my starter won't turn over / the battery has charge / and the cables are clean.

at the key it just clicks.

what is the little box between the battery and the starter / does it go bad or kaput?

any advise before i attempt to pull the starter out for inspection.

i have checked all connections to be clean and tight in the series from battery to that little box gizmo to the starter...and they all seem solid.
