I have been following this thread for several days now. It's interesting because I can remember all growing up and over the past (too many) years, using Dexron/Mercon transmission fluid in all of my Chrysler products. As a matter of fact, the service manager at Paul F. Held Chrysler Plymouth in Kutztown, PA was the first person to tell me, in 1973, to use D/M and not type F, as type F was for Fords. Either he was extremely ignorant or I was extremely lucky. I have never experienced any tranny problems over all these years, and over lots and lots of Chryslers, Dodges, and Plymouths. Now I'm reading that this is all wrong. Now I am confused !!!

Charlie,
I hope you don't live to regret using Type A fluid. Type F is available at
Thren's in Hamburg and everyone in the club has used Type F since Type A
wasn't the best fluid to use. Ask George Riehl.

About 4 weeks ago I drained the transmission and torque-converter in my 62
300 Convertible, cleaned the screen and filled it with new Type A
Transmission Fluid. I used up all I had of Type A so I went online and ordered
another case of Type A Transmission Fluid. It was a case of 12 quarts
delivered to my home for $29.95. That figures out to be $2.24333 per quart
which
isn't a bad price.
So while Type A is hard to find it's not impossible to find.
I guess that as long as I can find Type A fluid, I'll be using Type A
fluid.
Last weekend I went to a car show and they had a guy giving a seminar
(his opinions from his experiences) on vehicle fluids. Mainly engine oils and
transmission fluids.
He said that changing engine oil at 3,000 miles is a waste of time, money
and natural resources. He had oil tested at a lab at 5,00 and 7,500 miles
and they still tested ok.
He also said that the Synthetic Oils, Engine as well as Transmission
Fluids , are far superior than the conventional products.
