Hi all:
Several years ago I had a problem with this leakage on my '56 Dodge. The
sheath had deteriorated, probably from heat, and was chipping off. My
solution was to clean the broken end of the cable sheath, up to where the sheath
was in good condition, of all oil residue and apply a thin smooth layer of
Chrysler's "Black rubber in a tube." Then I slid about 18" of heat shrink
tubing over the uncured "goo" and shrank it. The "goo" adhered to the
cable and the tube as it cured. Hasn't leaked since.
