RE: [Chrysler300] Power Locks-1963-Imp, only & 1964 all =Fire By Wire

Referring to John Holst's online information for 1964 as suggested, one will
find the following:

 

The excerpt from the 1964 service manual (page 8-80) below refers to the
power electric door lock system available on the Imperial, although the 1964
service manual does not explicitly state Imperial as the 1963 service manual
does.  The information on the power vacuum door locks is available in
section 23 of the service manual for both 1963 and 1964.  In the 1964
service manual, the diagnosis information for vacuum door locks is listed on
pps.23-62 through 23-64.

 

Additionally, John has posted a copy of "1964 Chrysler
options/interior/exterior color codes and fabric swatches."   Refer to the
factory specifications link and look under "factory installed options and
accessories" listing for "power equipment" and find code "357 - door locks -
vacuum - 4 door models only."  No mention of electric door locks for
Chrysler models.  In the 1964 Chrysler owners manual, page 13, the single
door lock switch located to the right of the steering wheel is pictured and
its operation is described.   The power door lock switches in each front
door armrest console, located further up from the power window switches,
were only used with electric door locks on the 1964 Imperial.

 

The wiring diagram (Fig. 10) in the 1964 service manual that shows the
electric power door locks is on page 8-104 and it indicates it applies to
the Imperial.  I found no wiring diagram for electric door locks for
Chrysler models, unless this was some sort of mid-year production change (I
don't think so).  

 

If my interpretation of the documentation is incorrect please advise
accordingly.  Hope this is helpful.

Sounds like the debate is still open on when the change from vacuum to
electric took place. Any others out there with more information?

POWER EQUIPMENT

ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS

The electric door lock is operated by a push-pull

double action solenoid attached by a connecting rod

to the door latch locking lever. By pressing the single

pole double throw switch mounted on the right and

left front door trim panel, a solenoid in each of the

four doors is actuated, moving the latch locking lever

into the lock or unlock position.

All doors may be locked or unlocked either mechanically

or electrically. To lock mechanically push

the front door handle to the forward position and

depress the rear door locking button. To lock electrically

depress the switch to lock or lift upward to unlock

the doors.

The wiring diagram includes a diagram showing the switches in the front
doors connected to a door lock relay that then feeds solenoids in all four
doors.

The options list shows the power door locks available on all 4-drs and
retailing for $56.00

The 1963 Chrysler Service Manual indicates a similar system to be available
on the Imperial, only.
