Mark,
I also own a 300H . Your post is interesting because I have installed a set of KYB's on my car and had thought about trying the Gabriels!
I have restored two E Type Jaguars in the last 10 years. I had my original Koni's "rebuilt" (turned out to be an exchange in kind ) on my 63. On the 64 Jag, I bought some very expensive boy racer shocks because the owner liked their appearance. They were awful, but provided a remarkable side by side test platform to compare two identical cars, one with the boy racer shocks and one with Koni's.
I replaced the pretty shocks with Koni's after the owner drive my 63. When I put KYB's on my 300H, I thought it drove like the 64 Jaguar did with the non-Koni shocks. I am thankful I have them, but wish we could get Koni's.

In my case, I bought "cheap" shocks because one evening while returning home from a cruise-in, the car quit running (fuel pump push rod issue). The lame jerk operating the wrecker pulled the car up on the roll-back by throwing the hook around a NOS shock, rendering it useless. I needed the car for a car show the following weekend. I didn't have the time to shop around and possibly argue with a 17 year-old kid behind some counter, so I went to Auto Zone and bought shocks off the shelf. These Gabriels have been on the car for more than eight years with no problems. Now that I'm in a better situation financially, I can now afford to buy the more expensive KYB shocks. Problem is, new shocks are not on my priority list, so the Gabriels will stay on the car until a later date.
