Glad you mentioned the Thompson Power Steering pump.  It reminded me that I
have wondered whether anyone else besides me experiences a noisy power
steering system on their 300C.  It seems when making turns, the pump makes a
whirring sound that is obtrusive and annoying, and that the noise increases
as the fluid gets hotter.  I have tried other Thompson pumps and they all
make the same noise, at least on my car.  So I was wondering whether maybe I
have a faulty steering gear that is somehow causing a higher than normal
load on the pump or there is some internal restriction in the gear that is
heating the fluid, leading to increased noise.  Or should I just learn to
live with it because it is normal?!  I guess one option would be to go to
the later 300D system, but I tend to be a purist, so this really is an
undesirable option.
