[Chrysler300] 300E starting motor issues

Really going to miss Carmel meet. I think this Eeeek! is still haunted. Starter stuck in ring gear last fall & partially disassembled to get it released, then off to storage. Located rebuilt starter & installed last week. Old starter was "groaning" when 1st hit key, then speed up till motor caught. So thought windings were gone-20 yrs old. But started fine this spring. New starter also groans & then speeds up & it starts when cold. When hot, barely cranks over, doubtful if it will start sometimes. Motor has about 400 miles after full rebuild. One suggestion is timing needs to be backed off a bit, which I haven't tried yet. Any other ideas out there? Thanks.
