Hi All I had the privalege of working with John on the rescue and restoration of Golden. We found it in a barn in a small town in West Virginina it had been painted back at the time. John and I trailered it back to Long Island with my trusty Dakota pickup. Those were the days I really miss John he was a incredable man totally devoted to the hobby and willing to help anyone. RIP John. ----- Original Message ----- From: John R. I had the opportunity to drive "Golden" as the designated driver when John Hertog brought it to Carlisle several years ago and several of us went out for dinner. A memorable experience with a special car. RIP Jean. We all miss you. Andy, It is important to point out that the Golden G restored by John Hertog was a well documented car that left the factory in PRIMER. It never had a real factory color and therefore could be painted any color, which was gold, as Dr. Gold the original buyer, wanted, hence the reason for the car being delivered to the dealer in primer. That is what made the car so "special". The car was painted at the dealer due to the factory not offering the color the good doctor wanted. I don't see this as a valid comparison. September 2010, Mecum Auction St. Charles, Illinois, perhaps the "specialest" of special-color 300G's, the "Golden" G first discovered and restored by John Hertog, with a fresh respray and wire wheels sold for $68,000 Russo and Steele, Scottsdale 2011. A white G coupe, described as restored and painted in the 1990's, sold for $68,200 You can draw your own conclusions.
