Larry,
Naptha will dissolve all the old rubber cement/glue or contact adhesive,
and it won't hurt your paint. Be liberal in applying the naphtha, and
you will hardly have to work at it. You might try the naphtha on some
obscure area just to check what I'm suggesting, but I have never seen it
cut into paint of any type.
On the other hand, if somebody crazied it up with silicone glue or
silicone caulk, I'm just going to wish you luck. Nothing will ever
remove it except cutting and rubbing it off.
