Plug wire routing was likely to prevent the possibility of "cross firing" of
spark plugs. It is a known phenomenon that running plug wires for longer
runs in parallel can cause a radio frequency event that will cause the
electrical charge down one plug wire to cause a parallel wire (also
depending on firing order of the engine) to gain an electrical charge and
this would fire off another cylinder out of proper sequence. I've pondered
of this before with my B.
That's somewhat the theory anyhow. I'm sure that one of our Engineers can
chime in with the truth.

I note in the first picture that the spark plug wires are routed through
grommeted holes in the plug wire cover. Was this standard on the D's or
just something special for the race preparation? Seems like it would be a
real pain to access the plugs and get the terminals connected to the plugs.
I hope someone will post some pictures of the racing D.
It was great to get to view the pictures on our website and relive that
super meet. Déjà vu all over again. Let's do that again, soon!

These are a few shots of the standard transmission 300 D that ran at Daytona
Speed Weeks and is now a beautiful restoration.
